Rewriting an AppleScript in Python and vice-versa

I’m learning Python because it is a requirement for scripting Amazon Web Services.
As I’m learning Python, there are a few of my AppleScripts that might be more elegant if written in Python or as a hybrid. I’m not far enough in Python to do it yet, and I’m curious to hear about other’s experiences.

What have you noticed in scripting in Python?
Could you post a script that exists as AppleScript and Python?
